One characteristic of a growing city is that it continues to attract new investment.
Mauldin is doing just that.
The city announced Wednesday that MP Husky is expanding its existing manufacturing operations in Greenville County with the construction of a new facility. City officials also hinted at another development coming to Main Street.
“The City of Mauldin is pleased to welcome MP Husky, a leading cable tray and cable bus supplier in the U.S. and Canada,” said Mauldin Mayor Dennis Raines. “This project showcases the accomplishments of our state, county and city working in unison to bring investment to a site that is a S.C. Department of Commerce certified site. We are proud to have MP Husky as Mauldin’s newest industry.”
The second development Raines mentioned, is an 18,000 square-foot, Class A office space, two-story facility coming to the city’s Main Street. Raines said the space would be unlike anything the city has seen. He credited members of the city’s administrative and economic development committee, along with partnerships with county agencies such as the GADC and SCDC with the economic growth in the city in recent years.
“Come to Mauldin, we’re open for business,” Raines said.
MP Husky plans to build a 150,000 square-foot facility at 1400 Old Stage Road, creating 50 new jobs in the process. The new facility will feature custom metal fabrication, engineering, design, in-house lab testing and more, according to a release from the company. Interested applicants should visit jobs@mphusky.com as hiring for new positions is already underway.
Bill Mauritz, V.P. of Finance for MP Husky, said the company considered relocating to expand but wanted to stay in the Upstate. Mauritz said he expects the new facility to be finished by the end of the year.
“We’re really trying to create growth and jobs in the Upstate. It’s always been important to us, and we wanted to maintain the workforce that we had. We wanted to stay local,” Mauritz said.
The company, which was founded in 1955, has more than 150 employees and is located at 204 Old Piedmont Highway in Greenville.
“Today’s expansion by MP Husky is further proof that manufacturing continues to thrive across South Carolina, thanks to concerted state and local efforts,” said Secretary of Commerce Bobby Hitt. “This expansion will benefit Greenville County and the state as a whole for years to come.”
City officials hope the economic boom continues for the foreseeable future.
“When it comes to some of the things that are on the horizon as well as these two announcements, it really speaks to what Mauldin is doing as an up and coming community,” said Taft Matney, planning and economic chair for the city. “We’re creating a new level of jobs in the area and highlighting Mauldin in a way we haven’t done before.”
