UPDATE: I received a number of calls and emails over the past couple of days shining a light on an unintended consequence that was created by our move from basing baseball and softball by grade to ages.
The problem is that kids who fully expected to have a home in Mauldin Rec baseball or softball were suddenly “aged out” of the program with little warning. While there has to be an age limit, understanding the issues created by reorganizing divisions, we know this is a transitional year.
Because of that, for 2015, as we migrate back to age-based instead of grade-based divisions, we raised the age limit to 13.
Our goal is to constantly improve Mauldin Rec and its programs, and the unfortunate reality is that sometimes the tweaks we make have a broader implication than we anticipate. This is one of those times.
To the athletes’ parents who took time to reach out, thank you. We can only keep improving if people get involved and let us know what they think.

In addition to growing our baseball program, we’re working to bring back our girls’ softball program, AND we’re planning to be the first city in the Upstate to add lacrosse as a youth rec sport.
Each program’s success relies on the number of youth athletes who register, so while we intend to support each of these sports through Mauldin Rec, modifications to those programs may be necessary based on the amount of registrations we receive.
Please register soon, and contact Mauldin Rec at 864-288-3354 if you have any questions about any of these spring programs.
Baseball/Softball
- Baseball: Ages 4 -13 (Age as of May 1st)
- Softball: Ages 7-13 (Age as of May 1st)
BASEBALL/SOFTBALL NOTE: Divisions will be organized by ages, not grades. Recognizing that 2015 is a transitional year, the age limit will be 13.
Lacrosse
- Boys and Girls: Ages 6 -13 (Age as of September 1st)
LACROSSE NOTE: Divisions will be organized by ages, not grades. Due to rules differences, girls and boys play separately.
Registration fees for each of these spring youth sports programs are $75 for Mauldin residents and $95 for non-city residents.
