TAFT’S NOTE: Yes. This is a campaign website, but part of communicating and serving the public means making sure people are aware of major events affecting our town. This is one of those events, and I wanted to make sure you knew about it.
Corn Road is a major artery in Mauldin, and if you’re going from the Miller Road area to Butler Road or vice versa, you know how frustrating travel has been since the historic rains have given Mauldin residents and businesses trouble with their commutes this summer.
The sun appears to be coming out, at least figuratively.
Major sewer and road repairs that left the heavily-traveled road next to Mauldin High School impassable for weeks are expected to be completed soon according to the South Carolina Department of Transportation.
The road, which has been closed to traffic and forced detours around the area, is slated to reopen before school starts.
Weather permitting, paving is slated for Thursday, and Corn Road could be ready for traffic by this weekend.

UPDATE: Corn Road reopened to traffic on Thursday, August 15. Weather cooperated, and paving went smoothly. Cheers could be heard all over town as the first cars made their way down the street.
