UPDATE: DUE TO THE EXPECTATION OF SEVERE WINTER WEATHER MAKING TRAVEL HAZARDOUS ACROSS THE UPSTATE, THIS MEETING HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19 AT 6:00 P.M. AT THE MAULDIN SENIOR CENTER. NOTE: ONLY THE DATE HAS CHANGED. THE TIME AND LOCATION REMAIN THE SAME TO ALLOW FOR CONSISTENCY IN SCHEDULING.
There’s no secret that for the past several years, participation in Mauldin Recreation’s baseball/softball program has dropped sharply. I’m not telling tales out of school, and over the past six years as a parent of a player, I’ve heard a number of concerns.
When I ran for council, I said that I wanted to improve what we offer through Mauldin Rec, but I also said that it would be imperative to have parental involvement.
With a consistent decline in player participation over the past several years, it’s important for city officials to understand why.
We’re conducting an open meeting for parents and coaches to find out how we can improve our program. Originally scheduled for Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mauldin Senior Center (Ray Hopkins Senior Center at 203 Corn Road), the meeting has been moved to Wednesday, February 19 at the same time and location in due to severe winter weather concerns..
We want and need you to be there, and we ask that you let your friends, neighbors, former coaches, and former teammates know about the meeting, too.
If your family has left the Mauldin Recreation baseball/softball program, we want to know why.
If you’re thinking of leaving the Mauldin Recreation baseball/softball program, we want to know why.
If you’re staying with the Mauldin Recreation baseball/softball program but have issues you want to address, we want to know what they are.
This is an open meeting, and we want parents and coaches to be completely honest with what they think and what they feel and what their perceptions are of Mauldin Recreation baseball and softball.
Please make sure to attend this very important meeting on February 19 at the Mauldin Senior Center at 6:00 p.m.
This is not an invitation to simply attend a meeting. This is a request for you to become involved and engaged with the future of Mauldin Recreation baseball and how we as a community can work together to rebuild the program our families deserve.
Please also share this link and information with your friends and neighbors who currently participate in, are thinking about leaving, or have already left Mauldin Rec baseball/softball. We need ALL of their input.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday, February 19 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mauldin Senior Center for an open, honest, and productive session about where our baseball/softball program is and where it needs to be.
Sincerely,
Taft
P.S. Don’t forget. Mauldin Baseball/Softball registration is going on until February 16. We’re also introducing girls’ lacrosse this year (with the expectation of introducing boys’ lacrosse next spring). You can register for these programs either at the Mauldin Sports Center or online at: https://mpar.sportssignup.com.
